Short Profile:
After studying civil engineering Klaus Maurer joined the Fire Department of the City of Cologne in 1987 as a trainee and officer cadet. As head of the operational department since 1989, he was responsible for the planning and steering, the emergency medical services of the city as well as for education and training and finally deputy director of the Cologne Fire Department. In this time, he worked on the safeguarding of the G8 and EU summit in Cologne in 1999 as well as on fundamental work to secure mass events.
From 2001 to 2006 Klaus Maurer was Fire Chief of Karlsruhe. His work there was the upgrading of the municipal crisis management in the overall responsibility for the non-police security and the upgrading of the interregional means for large incidents in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Since that time, Klaus Maurer has worked as an expert in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in coordination and assessment.
Since October 2006, Klaus Maurer is appointed as Chief Fire Officer of Hamburg. From 2009 to 2012, he was Chairman of the Working Group of the Directors of Fire Services in the German Association of Cities. Since 2007, Klaus Maurer is an active member of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination Team (UNDAC). He has extensive experience as an incident commander and in disaster management at home and abroad. |
