Short Profile:
Jim is an advisor to the Dubai Maritime City Authority. He has worked as a safety and risk management consultant and sailed as Master and Chief Officer aboard Tankers, Refrigerated cargo and Hospital ships. He was also a fire fighting instructor at the U.S. Navy’s west coast fire fighting school where he trained both Navy and Civilian Mariners in basic and advanced ship board fire fighting.
As a Vice President of the largest Cruise line in the world Jim’s responsibilities, from late 1999 to early 2002, included revamping the company’s on board fire fighting policy, procedures and training. During his time in charge of fire fighting doctrine the ships did not have a single major fire.
Additionally while employed by the National Transportation Safety Board he worked with the New York City; Miami Dade; and City of Miami Fire Departments on investigations of ship board fires and explosions.
Jim was on the IFSTA Marine Fire Fighting Committee (Fire Protection Publications, Oklahoma State University). This committee produced two textbooks: 'Marine Fire Fighting' (May 2000) and 'Marine Fire Fighting for land-based Fire Fighters' (July 2001). |
