Short Profile:
Robert Kopp, Deputy Police Commissioner of the Police Headquarters Munich, started his career at the Bavarian Police in 1976. Having held a wide range of positions in the most various areas of police services, he completed his studies at the German Police Management Academy in Münster in 1994.
After that, he worked as a Senior Level Police Officer in the field of crime fighting at the Police Department of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior. In addition, Robert Kopp took over the direction of the Bavarian Situation Centre (“Lagezentrum Bayern”). From 1999 on, he was Coordinator for Police Affairs in this Ministry, and subsequently, Deputy Head of its Police Operations Department. It was in this function that Robert Kopp served as Bavarian Police Coordinator for the 2006 FIFA World Cup before he was appointed Deputy Police Commissioner of the Police Headquarters Munich in 2007.
Numerous challenges and major events have had to be handled ever since – and have been tackled successfully, in interaction with all security authorities, by the Deputy Police Commissioner in his capacity as Head of Police Operations. Among these are the annual Munich Security Conference held in the city centre of Munich which, in 2015, was attended by more than 20 Heads of State or Government and approximately 60 Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of Defence, or the Munich Oktoberfest with more than six million guests per year, to name but a few examples. These occasions, as well as a great number of other gatherings, festivals and assemblies provided Robert Kopp with a wealth of experience as Head of Operations for major police operations or high-risk events. |
