Fire Investigation - Completing the Circle of Fire Safety

 

Short Profile: 

Peter has a PhD in forensic fire investigation, developing a unique and comprehensive methodology by designing a series of 23 Fire Investigation Road Maps (FIRMs) and associated guidance. This enables the investigator to identify and analyse all available data relating to the origin and cause of an incident without bias, allowing a thorough, rigorous and systematic approach to fire investigations and ensuring all available data is collected.

He served over 30 years an an operational fire officer, and towards the latter part of his career, was Group Manager for the Fire Investigation Team in the London Fire Brigade and the Borough Commander for the City of London. Peter is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers, a Member of the Forensic Science Society and a Certified Fire Investigator, Evidence Collection Technician and Certified Instructor with the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI). He has attended and passed a two week Cause and Origin and Courtroom Techniques Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glenco, Georgia, USA and a CFI re-certification course with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Washington, USA. He holds a BTEC Level 7 in Expert Witness Evidence.

Peter will become the President of the IAAI, a professional fire investigation association with 77 Chapters and 8,000 members world-wide, in Las Vegas in April 2014. He served as the UK Chapter President for 11 years.

Peter has been involved, either directly or indirectly, with many of the most high profile fire investigations within the UK and Ireland over the last decade including fire fighter fatalities at Bethnal Green Road (London 2004); Stevenage (Hertfordshire 2005); Bray, Co Wicklow (Ireland 2007); Atherstone-on-Stour Warehouse fire (Warwickshire 2007) and Shirely Towers, Southampton (Hampshire 2010). Also the 'Operation Refit' murder investigation (Hertfordshire 2005); Iron Mountain data storage warehouse fire (London, 2006); the Cutty Sark fire (London 2007); the Royal Marsden Hospital fire (London 2008); the Lakanal high rise multi-fatal fire (London 2009); the multi-fatal Villaggio Shopping Mall fire, (Qatar 2012) and the Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone 'fire that wasn't' (Dublin 2012).

Peter has presented throughout the UK and Ireland and also in France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Holland, Finland, Switzerland, Latvia, Oman and in Denver, Georgia, Savanah, Minnesota and Washington DC in the USA.
